began their first pre season game of the 2005/06 season with a visit from
reigning Manchester League Champions Prestwich Heys Mossley gave first games to summer signings Phil Denney and Karl Vernon and also Paul Murphy from Manchester City in an otherwise familiar looking line up and it was Mossley who took the initiative from the off. In fact it took the Lilywhites only three minutes to open their account. Adam Morning charged down a poorly taken free kick, raced down the left wing and crossed low for Chris Downey to turn home from close range with the visitors claiming to no avail that Morning had run the ball out of play before crossing. Mossley continued to dominate the game with Mossley's pace and movement causing the Heys defence plenty of problems. Mossley doubled their lead in the 20th minute when the hard working Phil Denney blocked another clearance and raced forward to beat the visitors keeper easily from 15 yards. Denney then hit the inside of the post within a couple of minutes and then fired narrowly wide when well placed. Having dominated the half Mossley were pegged back a minute before the interval when ex Salford and Ramsbottom centre forward Carl Lomax curled home a super free kick from 25 yards. Jason Beckford made wholesale changes at half time and Prestwich enjoyed a spell of pressure before former Mossley striker Darren Wardle scored the equaliser chipping the advancing Bracey from the edge of the box on 55 minutes. Mossley regained the lead ten minutes later when Steve Sheil's deep cross from the left was headed accross the face of goal by former Huddersfield Town junior Joe Shaw for Jordan Goodeve to tap home. Joe Shaw got on the scoresheet himself when he powered home a diving header from Chuku Otutu's cross. |
